Gay rights have been a huge issue in the American spotlight recently, especially with the passing of new legislature such as SB 6239 in Washington State granting same-sex marriages to be issued on June 7th, 2012. Although, one might applaud progressive states for introducing gay friendly addenums to the long list of laws, change must ultimately come about at a federal level. Until, homosexual marriages are given the same rights, and tax breaks, as heterosexual marriages, homosexuals will not be equal in the eyes of the government and it’s citizens.
