Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition!
So yesterday, the website baldursgate.com featured a countdown and a clip of music… and that was it. There was a collective, “WTF is going on,” on the net, from fans of the old-school RPG series, Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2 (and the console games, although they are more action-oriented).
But it was finally announced – Baldur’s Gate is coming out in an enhanced edition! And Baldur’s Gate II also!
This is not just an HD remake — there will be brand new content. Bioware is not involved in this, but Overhaul Games’ team, supported by Wizards of the Coast and Atari, includes developers from the original game.
This is awesome timing for me, as after Mass Effect 3, I had planned on playing the original games off of GOG (Good Old Games) , and had been playing with lots of crazy mods and such to make the graphics palatable for more modern sensibilities… but now I can wait until the summer and play brand spanking new versions of ‘em!
For those who don’t know about Baldur’s Gate, they’ve been touted as two of the best RPGs ever written, primarily due to the story and characters, and voiceovers in the second with inter-party squabbling.
So… worth watching for if you’re a PC RPG fan. (And there’s mutterings that it might come out for iOS, if you’re an iPad/iPhone gamer.)
